Microsoft announced that they see a strong increase in customers facing unexpected and extreme high invoices for their Azure subscriptions. Hackers use compromised accounts, traded on the Dark Web, to login to Azure Subscriptions and deploy large Azure virtual machines they use for mining crypto currencies.
When you do not want this to happen to you, we recommend the following:
- Immediately activate Multi Factor Authentication (MFA) for your Azure Subscriptions (do not forget Dev/Test environments)
- Set a maximum spend on your Azure Subscriptions (Azure Cost Management)
- If you are currently not using N-series and M-series Virtual Machines (popular amongst the criminals) make a policy that those machines cannot be deployed without your permission
